John Borrow Photography came about, as a result of my keen interest in creativity and the process of human imagination being able to interpret images from around one’s being.
I came to love the art of photography while at school, having been given the opportunity to start a photographic club, I learnt and taught fellow students how to develop and print black & white images in a purpose built dark room. Little did I know at that time that there was a whole wealth of knowledge around the world of photography out for grabs. Till very recently I took my art more seriously. Apart from travel images throughout the world, I focused my interest in wedding and events photography, and on occasions portraiture and studio work. My theme is about creating ‘Tomorrow’s Memories Today’
I joined Godalming Photography Club affiliated to SPA, Surrey Photographic Association back in 2018 and later became a Member of the Royal Photographic Society with a view to develop my skills in the digital age. I was elected Chairman in May 2023 at our AGM, having served three years as their Social Secretary.
I will endeavour to build my web to encourage would be photographers to appreciate the beauty of the world and its inhabitants around them. You will see the inevitable development in photographic technology, where some of my images were produced using colour film with not sharp quality to todays digital technologically advanced image quality.
My portfolio includes:
In this section I have captured many images across the globe which may or may not be familiar, trying to add something freshness to the picture and above all a story. During my life, not only have I travelled to all the outreaches of the world I have had a remarkable childhood, being born in North Africa, Morocco raised there till my father was posted to Istanbul to manage and develop the sales management activities for a young stateside oil company. As a youngster I grew up in a privileged environment being able to see some of the beauties of the cities and the seedy side as well. I made some wonderful friends some of whom decided to emigrate to the states and have since lost touch, mainly due to our respective ages and the world moving fast. Final destination before my father retired, was Singapore. Having visited recently, it has become totally unrecognisable, heaving with sky scrapers and international Banks, what used to be a short boat trip, you can access surrounding islands by cable car and monorail transport.
I have subsequently visited other regions in the area and am still planning to visit countries like Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Costa Rica and possibly return to East Africa for a final Safari before I hang up my camera.
Landscape and Seascape photography can at times be challenging, my attempt of creativity was somewhat determined by the local environment.
Where ever I’ve been around the world I have made a point of shooting images of people in their environment, in particular market places, streets and in some cases as portraits.
Rugby and Motor Rallies are of particular interest to me as a spectator. I enjoy the action and pure grit of participants as you will see on my sports page.
I have been fortunate to have worked on a few studio workshops, some examples can be seen on my studio page.
Wedding photography these days require a sense of the original as most of the wedding guests would use their mobile phones to create their own memories. Presentation and originality are in my opinion essential to give the Bride and Groom lasting memories of their day. We have added a package that includes video footage where possible.
Recognition for Photographic Merit
The Royal Photographic Society
As a Member of the Royal Photographic Society for the last few years, I have followed the Distinctions pages to help improve the quality and techniques of my photography and feel that it is probably time to commit myself to gain a recognition for my art. I am now working towards gaining an RPS Distinction this coming year 2024.
Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB)
In addition to RPS Distinction, I will be working towards gaining recognition by the PAGB. I am looking forward to the challenge, who said ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks…’.
A lot to look forward to in 2024.
Well, I think that is enough about me. Let’s show you what I have put together over the years… Enjoy
