Wild Life

October 2023 the Camera Club meet at Petworth Park National Trust in Sussex for the Rutting Season for Fallow Deer. These are a few I took with my camera a Nikon Z7 fitted with a 70-600mm Sigma Sport Lens supported on a Manfrotto Monopod, makes a good walking stick when not used with the camera. One of the reasons for using a long focal length lens gives you the opportunity to get into your subject without disturbing it, if your lucky, they will be inquisitive and get in close to see what you are up to.

Essential Clothing

The Do’s and Don’t of what to wear. In the first instance, wear warm waterproof overgarments a soft hat to keep your ears warm, such as a beany. Remember to bring a good pair of Wellington Boots, comfortable enough to ride the uncertain ground. Dull muted colours essential, so you can fade away into the background. Do not wear stiletto heals or bright coloured clothing. It’s not about you being the centre of attention, it’s all about getting the right shot with your camera. After all you don’t want to warn the poor deer going about their daily rituals that there is a dangerous object coming towards them.

You may want to try your hand at photographing Deer, there are plenty of park all over the UK that give access to photographers, so hunt them out.
